Recently, I bought a new hair toy from BellamiHair.com: a wrap ponytail! I’ve really been struggling with the limited hairstyles I can rock with short hair. When I saw that they were only $39, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity!
I’m very pleased with my purchase of the 20″ Synthetic Mochachino to Blonde Ombre ponytail. And I figured I would share a few photos and a “How To” tutorial on how to apply it! Enjoy!
First of all.. Welcome to my new and improved blog! I took a few months off, but that doesn’t mean I was just lounging around. I was working my little tail off to make a lot of improvements to Gadden Rose. I hope you like them!
Secondly, HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! Or Singles’ Awareness Day, OR Gal-entine’s Day (as Meero Mani Nails, informed me), whichever you are celebrating. In the spirit of things, I pulled inspiration from Kylie Jenner to create this fun, glittery Valentine’s Day look for you all! I hope you enjoy!
London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015 took place a few weeks ago, in September. I have always loved seeing the styles coming down the runway, but I also love checking out the street style. Not just with clothing but with hairstyles, as well! It’s a great prediction for future hair trends that are about to trickle over here, to the U.S.
While I was looking through all the pictures, I noticed one of my biggest inspirations and favorite YouTubers was in attendance: Tanya Burr. She’s not only an incredible human being, she’s a talented makeup artist and product developer (check out her products here). I’ve looked up to this woman for a few years and it’s amazing to see the impact she is making on so many lives, as well as my own!
Back to fashion week! Tanya posted a picture of her hairstyle for the Burberry and Issa shows on Instagram and I absolutely LOVED it! It was a simple swept back updo.
And the hairstylist in me decided I had to recreate it! So I filmed a quick tutorial showing YOU how to achieve the same style! It’s great for events or even just wearing throughout your daily routine.
This past month has been a busy one for me! I finished school. It was my birthday. AND I started at brand new job at two amazing salons (KINK Hair Salon and Notch Men’s Grooming Salon).
While I was still in school, I had been stalking down my new boss for months. But not in the creepy kind of way, in the “hire me” kind of way… Josh Nichols has been in the business for over 15 years, a salon owner in St. Louis for two, and he is one of the most talented hairdressers I know. His first salon, KINK, won Alive Magazine’s Hot List Award for Hottest Salon! And he is STLFW’s house hairdresser. Needless to say, I set my goals very high.
After hunting him down during St. Louis Fashion Week last Spring, I finally landed an interview. And I’d say it went well because he put me on his award winning team!
Just last month, we opened a brand new men’s grooming salon, Notch! The men’s industry is really booming. Men are starting to put more time into their appearance, especially when it comes to their hair.
So, I thought there was no better time than NOW to do my very first men’s hair tutorial! The classic pompadour has been a popular style. Often rocked by global hottie, David Beckham.
With a little help from my amazing boss, I give you the Classic Pompadour:
As I’m sure you’ve started to gather, I’m a 90’s kid. The grungier the better!
And there’s an artist I’ve been following that takes me right back to the 90’s! Her name is Halsey and she is quickly rising from underground to mainstream.
Her free download of New Americana was my summer anthem. And her new single, Ghost, is quick, witty, and sultry. Needless to say I’m waiting for her to call me to be her traveling hairstylist because I’m obsessed!
She’s been at the root of my inspiration for quite some time now, so I decided I should recreate one of my favorite looks of hers. Watch it here and click read more to find all of Halsey’s links!
I know this seems a bit behind the times. But, I still find sock buns to be very relevant. Especially with summer sneaking around the corner. Also, my pinterest post from ages ago (when I had an old, weird blog) keeps getting tons of pins! So, I figured why not post the old tutorial.
What you’ll need:
Sock, scissors, and a hair tie. No bobby pins needed!
For thin hair I suggest using pantyhose. For medium to thick hair use an above the ankle or taller sock. All you do is snip the toe and roll! If you have pantyhose, cut at both ends. I always say, “go big or go home,” so I used to use a knee high sock! And most importantly! Don’t forget to try and match your sock to your hair color.
Now that that’s done here’s how to create your sock bun look: Continue reading
